Some departments and research fields assign examinees the submission of a certificate of language ability as an eligibility to apply.

Each year, a candidate whose native language is not Japanese is required to submit a JLPT certificate and a Japanese candidate is required to submit a English ability certificate such as TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS. The details, sort of test and its required level are supposed to be listed in the official guidance of entrance exam. For 2021 academic year it will be put in July 2020 on the Admission Information website.

It is recommended that the candidates refer to the last year’s official guidance of entrance exam to confirm beforehand the required type of test and its level. We also recommend confirming in advance the test dates and application schedules of each language ability test to prepare the Doctoral course application procedures.
